East Midlands Regional Development Team (EMRDT) Bursaries
The East Midlands Regional Development Team (EMRDT) has a small number of Bursaries to help develop Paddlesport in the region. Coaching Bursaries are for volunteer coaches and Leaders who regularly coach or lead groups within the East Midlands on a volunteer basis. Funding is limited and the EMRDT is currently able to assist those seeking the following qualifications:
- BCU (UKCC) Level One and Two Coaching awards
- BCU (UKCC) Level Three Coaching award
(Applicants must have a requirement to proceed to this level of award and it is evidenced that they will support the yearly development of club/regional paddlers)
- BCU Four Star Assessors (including 5 star pre-requisite)
(Applicants must be willing to run a minimum of 1 Four Star Training Course, 1 Four Star Assessment per year for regional volunteer coaches)
(Applicants must have a requirement to lead groups based within the East Midlands and it is evidenced that they will support the continuing experience of such groups)
It is expected that candidates have been, and will continue to be, active volunteer coaches within their clubs or the region and will have already sought local funding i.e. County Sports partnerships/club support.
The Bursary is currently an amount equivalent to that raised from local funding sources - up to a maximum of 1/3rd of the costs of obtaining the qualification from a regionally sponsored course or 1/3rd of reasonable costs (as decided by the RDT ) if regionally sponsored courses are not appropriate or available.
The RDT may, in cases of hardship or other exceptional circumstances, waive the requirement to obtain local funding and/or increase the amount of the Bursary.
Confirmation of the level of EMRDT financial support must be obtained prior to making any financial commitment towards the cost of a particular course or expense.
Payment of Bursaries for Level one coaching awards will normally be paid after completion of 20 hours of post qualification coaching and the submission of a short article describing their course for the Regional website.
Bursaries for other qualifications are normally made upon successful attainment of the award although candidates for the higher awards may receive interim payments upon completion of appropriate stages.
Candidates must be sponsored by their Club Committees (Club Chair) or their Local Coaching Organiser who will confirm that the candidate has sought local funding and is an active club or regional coach.
An application form is attached which should be completed and returned to the EMRDT Secretary.
